A 72-year-old woman from Nizhny Novgorod sold her apartment and handed over the money to fraudsters. The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported this.
According to the victim, in early August 2025 she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an employee of the Gosuslugi website. He told her that her account had allegedly been hacked. Shortly thereafter, so-called "representatives of Rosfinmonitoring" contacted her and convinced her of the need to cancel a "suspicious bank transaction."
The perpetrators acted in stages. Over the course of a month the pensioner received calls from various bogus specialists, including fake law enforcement officers. Under their pressure the woman sold her apartment for 6.6 million rubles and handed the money "for safekeeping" to a man who came to her in person. Later she also transferred her personal savings — more than 1.1 million rubles — to the specified accounts and mobile numbers.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of fraud under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Operational and investigative activities are underway to identify the persons involved in the crime.
Earlier it was reported that a 48-year-old man from Nizhny Novgorod lifted a self-imposed ban on taking out credit in order to obtain a loan for the scammers.
