      Four more settlements in the Nizhny Novgorod region took up the baton of the regional marathon “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!”. Between August 27 and 30, themed events were held in Chkalovsk, the Voskresenskoye urban-type settlement, Arzamas and Zavolzhye, the regional Ministry of Health reported.

      According to the department, to date the large-scale wellness campaign has already covered 19 municipal districts and several thousand residents of the region.

      The main task of the marathon is to improve access to medical care. In Chkalovsk, Voskresenskoye, Arzamas and Zavolzhye, medical workers carried out more than 1,600 medical examinations and consultations. To this end, mobile medical complexes and “health tents” were organized, where specialists conducted appointments.

      Over the four days of the “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!” marathon, more than 300 people underwent electrocardiographic examinations and received consultations from cardiologists in cardio vans.

      At the same time, general practitioners, pediatricians, neurologists, endocrinologists, dermatologists and psychologists worked in the health tents. These included specialists both from leading Nizhny Novgorod medical institutions and from local central district hospitals. In total, medical workers consulted more than 1,300 patients.

      Residents of Nizhny Novgorod were offered blood pressure measurement, fundus examinations, blood tests for sugar and cholesterol levels, anthropometric measurements and body mass index calculation. Marathon participants also had the opportunity to take rapid HIV tests.

      As Natalia Savitskaya, chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, noted, “We Are for a Healthy Lifestyle!” is not only about medical examinations. The key objective of the initiative is to promote a healthy lifestyle.

      Marathon participants can talk with experts and receive comprehensive information on the principles of proper nutrition, the importance of physical activity and other aspects of a healthy lifestyle. A family triathlon, passing the GTO standards and other sporting competitions are another integral part of the marathon.

      “Our marathon is coming to an end. Over the past six months it has been successfully held in nineteen districts of our region and has allowed thousands of Nizhny Novgorod residents to undergo free medical examinations, receive necessary medical consultations and learn a lot of useful information about a healthy lifestyle. This is a significant contribution to strengthening people’s health, increasing their awareness of the importance of prevention and their commitment to a healthy lifestyle,” Natalia Savitskaya summed up.

      The regional Ministry of Health reminded that preventive work with residents is a crucial component of the national project “Long and Active Life”, which has been implemented in the country since 2025 at the direction of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The new national project carries out tasks previously envisaged in the national “Healthcare” project. It is aimed at the expected increase in life expectancy by 2030 and envisages further modernization of polyclinics, outpatient clinics and feldsher-midwife stations, attracting an increasing number of qualified medical personnel to medical facilities, applying new approaches in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency medical care and the rehabilitation system, developing a network of national research centers and digitizing the sector.
