      The Guards Nizhny Novgorod Higher Military Engineering Command Kovel Red Banner School has begun training officers after more than a decade-long hiatus. The ceremonial opening of the school took place on September 1, reports NIA "Nizhny Novgorod".

      The school was closed in 2012, but by decision of the federal authorities its activities were resumed in 2025. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of regional and federal authorities, school veterans and guests from various parts of the country.

      Among the honored participants were Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Pyotr Bannikov, the region’s Chief Federal Inspector Alexander Murzin, Legislative Assembly deputy Vladimir Pakov and head of the Kstovo District Ivan Ulanov.

      Alexander Murzin congratulated the cadets on the start of the academic year, emphasizing the significance of their choice. "This is an important day for hundreds of young men who have decided to devote themselves to serving the Motherland. Here you will gain the knowledge and skills that will form the basis of your future service. The decision to revive the school is a contribution to the security of the region and the entire country," he said.

      Murzin also reminded attendees of the current geopolitical situation: "A special military operation continues on the western borders. We are confident in Russia's victory, and the officer corps you will join will play a key role in it."

      Deputy Governor Pyotr Bannikov called the opening of the school an important stage in the country's restoration process. "Cadets, absorb everything your instructors give you, because you have one of the best teaching staffs here. Do not forget traditions; remember that you are the future military leaders who will have to solve the most important tasks, including in the SMO zone. Regional authorities will continue to provide full support to the school," he said.

      The head of the school, a participant in the SMO, Major General Igor Pavelko also addressed the cadets and wished them success in their studies and in serving the good of Russia.

      Afterwards, the vicar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese, Bishop Filaret, held a prayer service, blessing the cadets for successful study and service.

      The opening ceremony concluded with a festive concert and demonstration performances by kettlebell sport masters.
