According to the results of laboratory tests conducted on 22 August 2025, nine beaches located in different districts of Nizhny Novgorod have been declared safe for swimming. This was reported by Rospotrebnadzor.
Swimming is permitted at both beaches of Lake Svetloyarskoye, as well as at Pestichnoye Lake (Dubravny settlement) and Lunskoye Lake (Koposovo settlement) — all located in the Sormovsky district. In the Kanavinsky district, Meshcherskoye Lake (Meshchersky Boulevard) and Sortirovochnoye Lake (both beaches) were recognized as safe. In the Leninsky district, swimming is allowed at both beaches of Silikatnoye Lake.
In the Avtozavodsky district, swimming is permitted at the lakes of the Park of Culture and Leisure, phases 1 and 2, located on Smirnova Street and Molodezhny Avenue, respectively.
Experts remind that swimming should only be done in officially authorized places. Bodies of water that have not been inspected may pose a health risk.
Unsafe places include bodies of water that are fenced off or marked with signs reading "No swimming." It is also not recommended to enter the water if ducks, geese are swimming in it or gulls are flying — waterfowl can carry parasites that cause skin and allergic diseases, such as cercariasis.
Algal blooms and accumulations of algae along the shore are another warning sign. Under such conditions parasites can develop that are dangerous to humans if ingested with undercooked meat.
Bodies of water located near agricultural land, landfills or industrial facilities are also hazardous. Rainwater runoff can carry helminth eggs, bacteria and heavy metals into the water, which can cause serious infectious and toxic diseases.
It is important to remember that health risks exist in both stagnant and flowing bodies of water. In places where swimming is officially prohibited, water quality is not monitored.
Earlier it was reported that 14 beaches and recreational areas on water bodies would operate in Nizhny Novgorod this summer.
