Tick activity has risen again in the Nizhny Novgorod region due to favorable conditions. Since March, Rospotrebnadzor specialists have recorded nearly 7,880 reports of bites. More than two thousand of the victims are children.
Most cases were registered in the Pavlovsky district, Dzerzhinsk and the Bor district, as well as in the Avtozavodsky, Prioksky, Leninsky and Sovetsky districts of Nizhny Novgorod.
Ticks most often attacked summer cottage plots and rural areas, in forests and in yards. Emergency prophylaxis with immunoglobulin was given to 1,346 people, of whom 1,293 were children.
Specialists examined more than 8,000 ticks. Almost one in five was found to be infected. Tick-borne encephalitis virus was detected in 0.3%, Borrelia in 20%, Anaplasma in almost 3%, and Ehrlichia in 0.6%.
Dangerous ticks were found in Shakhunsky, Bogorodsky, Urensky, Pavlovsky and several other districts. In six cases people developed tick-borne encephalitis. Two were infected in the region, the others in other regions. The victims did not seek medical attention in time, so prophylaxis was not carried out.
There were also 111 cases of borreliosis, eight of them in children.
By the end of August more than 10,000 residents of the region had been vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis.
Earlier it was reported that nine beaches in Nizhny Novgorod were deemed safe for swimming.
