Economics According to preliminary estimates by VTB, Russian banks issued mortgage loans for housing purchases totaling 340 billion rubles in July. This is an 11% increase compared to June of the current year. The average loan amount was about 5.5 million rubles.
In total, for the seven months of the year, the volume of mortgage issuance in Russia exceeded 1.8 trillion rubles, which is 42% lower than the same period last year. The majority of mortgage issuances are related to government-supported programs—83% in July and 79% since the beginning of the year.
"July figures indicate a gradual recovery in demand for mortgages. The volume of issuance exceeded June’s data and was only 3% below the results of July 2024. We expect that the easing of regulatory policies will contribute to further demand recovery, most of which will continue to be within the framework of state programs," commented Alexey Okhorzin, Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Business Products Department at VTB.
