      Let us remind you that as a result of the accident at the Gorodets hydroelectric plant on July 22, navigation on the Volga segment between Nizhny Novgorod and Gorodets was suspended. The cause was the collapse of the head structure during dismantling work, which resulted in flooding of the under-construction lock chamber 15A.

      The Association of Tour Operators notes that the Gorodets hydroelectric plant is a key point for cruise shipping between Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and cities along the Middle Volga. From April to November, over 13,000 vessels pass through, carrying nearly 180,000 passengers.

      "The suspension of operations during the peak season could have serious consequences for cruise navigation," the association reported.

      According to the agency, currently, route changes involving passage through the Gorodets hydroelectric plant have affected only the cruises that have already started. According to the Russian Transport Ministry, at the time of the accident, 10 passenger ships with 1,500 tourists onboard were waiting to pass through the lock. An additional 14 ships were scheduled to pass through the hydroelectric plant from July 23 to 25. For other departures scheduled for late July and August, information will be published after the inspection of the damaged section and the official conclusion of Rosenrybflot.

      It should be added that extensive reconstruction work is underway at the hydroelectric facility as part of the federal project "Development of Infrastructure for Marine and Inland Water Transport." This will ensure a depth of 4 meters and increase the capacity of the segment. The project began in May 2023.

      It was also reported that the Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor's Office has strengthened control over cruise companies' operations due to temporary restrictions on vessel movements through the Gorodets hydroelectric plant.
