      A resident of Nizhny Novgorod temporarily lost his hearing after swimming in one of the local rivers officially sanctioned for recreation. This was reported by Alexey Nikonin, chief editor of MIА "Stacionar-Press."

      Soon after the water procedures, the man began to shiver, developed a fever, inflammation, and facial swelling.

      Doctors diagnosed external otitis with purulent skin inflammation of the auditory canal. The cause was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can cause serious inflammations.

      As ENT surgeon Grigory Belozerov explained, this infection often enters the ear from prolonged contact with water. Those with weakened immune systems or overly cleansed ears are particularly vulnerable.

      "The pathogen of a dangerous infection settles in the outer ear canal with constant water exposure. If the immune system is weakened and the skin lacks the protective layer of earwax, Pseudomonas kills the normal ear microflora, proliferates, and causes otitis," the doctor said.

      In medicine, this condition is called "swimmer's ear." It occurs when water irritates the skin of the ear canal, provoking inflammation, tissue maceration, and even fungal infections.

      For otitis prevention, specialists recommend using special protective creams or films that create a barrier between the skin and water. It is also important not to over-clean the ears, especially with cotton swabs, as earwax is a natural defense barrier against bacteria and fungi.

      Hearing was restored to the patient only two weeks after starting treatment.

      It was previously reported that since the beginning of the swimming season, 30 people have drowned in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
