11 new specialized metrological classes have opened in schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      In the new academic year, 11 new classes joined the Metrological Educational Cluster of Rosstandart in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The project is being implemented by the regional Ministry of Education in partnership with the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Standardization, Metrology, and Testing. It aims to deepen students' familiarity with technical specialties related to exact sciences and measurements.

      As of today, there are a total of 32 metrological classes in the region. They operate in eight educational institutions — schools No. 185, No. 128, No. 105, and No. 127, as well as gymnasium No. 50 in Nizhny Novgorod, school No. 26 in Dzerzhinsk, Ankundinovskaya and Diveevskaya secondary schools.

      "Metrological classes are one of the directions: our schools also have engineering, medical, pedagogical, and other classes. In total, there are already 1,200 specialized classes functioning in the Nizhny Novgorod region. With the emergence of new academic partners and the improvement of educational programs, the number of such classes is growing every year, as well as the range of specializations available to students. Our main task is to give students the opportunity to acquire competencies in school that will be in demand in the labor market," said the Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Mikhail Puchkov.

      He emphasized that early career guidance is one of the priorities of the national project "Youth and Children."

      Let us remind you that the first metrological classes were opened in the region in 2024. In 2025, schools with metrological classes were granted the status of an innovative platform of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute for Education Development. From now until 2028, regulatory and methodological materials for career guidance activities will be developed and tested based on them. The result of this work will be a comprehensive package of documents for implementing such practices in educational institutions across the country.

      "The metrological cluster is one of the most comprehensively developing projects in the system of specialized classes in our region. We strive not only to provide organizational and methodological support to educational organizations but also to actively disseminate the accumulated experience and practices throughout the entire system of specialized education, sharing with colleagues from other regions, adopting the best examples and models from leading platforms. Our experience this year was presented at the Moscow International Education Salon and received a wide response from colleagues. We ourselves participated with great benefit in the V Conference of the Metrological Educational Cluster of Rosstandart in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region," said Elena Okunkova, rector of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute for Education Development.

      The curriculum of the metrological classes includes theoretical and practical classes aimed at mastering basic engineering knowledge. Classes are conducted by both school teachers and representatives of partner organizations — teachers from Nizhny Novgorod universities and technical schools, mentors from children's technoparks, as well as employees of large industrial enterprises and representatives of the business community.

      The first results of the cluster's work are already noticeable: three graduates from schools participating in the project were admitted to budget places in the field of "Standardization and Metrology" at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

      "This is exactly the result for which the cluster was created. We see that the interest fostered during school years truly grows into a conscious professional choice. And to have more such examples, we are consciously expanding the cluster down to the level of kindergarten. This approach allows us to cultivate interest in exact sciences and engineering specialties from early childhood and ensures continuity of knowledge at all stages — from kindergarten to university admission. And further, I am sure, we will strive for such personnel," noted Alexey Aizenberg, head of the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Standardization, Metrology, and Testing.

      Let us remind you that the national project "Youth and Children" has been implemented at the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, since 2025.
