      August 26, 2026 17:52 Sports The general director of Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo," Evgeny Zabuga, stated that medals will be the minimum goal for the team in the new season. He announced this at a press conference summarizing the season, reports NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent.

      Recall that in the 2025/2026 season, "Torpedo" finished the regular season in sixth place in the Western Conference. In the first round of the Gagarin Cup, the Nizhny Novgorod team defeated "Severstal," winning the series 4:1. In the second round, the team faced Magnitogorsk's "Metallurg," losing the series 1:4.

      During the off-season, the club did serious work and strengthened the roster. New players joined the team, who, according to the general director, should help achieve the set goals.

      "In the playoffs, as everyone remembers, the team's motto was 'actions speak louder than words.' This season we adhere to the same principle and will do more than talk. Last season left us with mixed feelings. On one hand, it was quite bright and interesting. On the other hand, there is a sense of incompleteness after being eliminated in the second round," noted Zabuga.

      He emphasized that the club aims to improve its results and compete for medals.

      "I am confident that we will do everything possible so that in the new season the aftertaste is already with the flavor of medals, at least. I think this is our common goal, as the club's 80th anniversary should be celebrated with significant sports achievements," stated the general director of "Torpedo."

      Recall that before the start of the new KHL season, the Nizhny Novgorod team will play in the Moscow Mayor's Cup. The tournament will take place from August 28 to 30.

      "Torpedo" will begin its journey in the regular championship with an away match (6+) against Moscow's "Spartak" on September 5.
