Sergey Sobyanin: Moscow is developing the transport system of Russia in collaboration with the regions.
On August 20, 2026, at 18:44, Society The Moscow ticketing system is already operating in 37 regions, processing over four million transactions daily, emphasized a member of the Supreme Council of "United Russia," the Mayor of Moscow. "We have been sharing this development since 2020. This is our contribution to the digitalization of the industry and the development of the transport system of Russia in collaboration with the regions," explained Sergey Sobyanin. He noted that the use of the Moscow ticketing system increases transparency: all transactions are automatically recorded. "The popularity of public transport is growing, as passengers find it convenient to pay for travel in various ways. For example, in Novosibirsk, passenger traffic has increased by 11% since the beginning of the year compared to the same period last year," explained the Mayor of Moscow. Furthermore, the efficiency of managing the route network is improving—transaction analytics allows for the proper adjustment of schedules, redistribution of rolling stock depending on route load, and identification of the most in-demand directions. "All this becomes available without additional investments from the regions. Therefore, more and more regions are interested in the capital's system. This year, it has been launched in Ivanovo, Bryansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions," reminded Sergey Sobyanin. Since 2022, Moscow has also been cooperating in the transport sector with the Luhansk People's Republic. New equipment for fare payment has been supplied to the region, and major carriers have been connected. The Nizhny Novgorod region is closely monitoring the scaling of the Moscow ticketing system and taking into account the capital's developments. The region has already transitioned to full cashless payment in public transport. As noted by the chairman of the All-Russian Passenger Association, Ilya Zotov, the implementation of unified ticket solutions contributes to the transparency of transportation and opens new opportunities for passengers. "The development of transport is heading towards the emergence of a unified transport card—most likely in digital format. Moscow's project to launch ticket solutions in the regions is already positively reflected in the transparency of passenger transportation: it allows for seeing the actual number of passengers and providing benefits more transparently. The Nizhny Novgorod region is paying close attention to these projects, taking into account the developments, and I am confident it will move in the same paradigm. Pilot projects may appear in several cities in the region—such decisions can be made by municipalities and carriers. It is important to create conditions for competition among operators: this will benefit passengers in terms of ease and convenience of payment," noted Ilya Zotov. Let us remind you that the modernization of transport infrastructure remains one of the key priorities enshrined in the People's Program. The development of the road network, the renewal of public transport, and the improvement of connectivity between regions directly affect the quality of life of citizens, their mobility, and the accessibility of social services. Systematic work in this direction is being carried out within the framework of national projects and federal programs, which allows strengthening the economy of the regions, creating jobs, and making trips for millions of passengers more comfortable and safe.
