The music festival "Great Russia" will take place in Nizhny Novgorod for the sixth time.

      On August 4, 2026, at 13:07, a musical festival "Great Russia" (6+) will take place on August 29 at the cathedral in honor of the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky. This year it will be held for the sixth time. The program is dedicated to the history of the victories of the Russian army—from the era of Peter I to the end of the Great Patriotic War. The concert will be divided into thematic blocks, each of which will tell about the most significant military events of the 18th-20th centuries. The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, noted that through art, the audience can feel a deeper connection with historical events and understand the significance of the feats of past generations.

      "The 'Great Russia' festival unites the military history of Russia, music, poetry, and brings to life the heroes of battles from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, World War I, and the Great Patriotic War. This multi-genre format helps us become part of those distant events and understand the price at which history was written, why we must preserve the memory of its heroes," said the head of the region.

      The program is based on military marches and compositions by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Georgy Sviridov, and other composers. Poems by Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gumilev, Konstantin Simonov, and contemporary authors will also be performed. The finale will feature the Military March from Sviridov's suite "Blizzard." The concert will involve soloists, the choir, and the orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theater named after A.S. Pushkin, conducted by Vladislav Lavrik. The artistic director of the festival is Alexey Trifonov.

      As in previous years, the performance will be accompanied by a large-scale video projection on the facade of the cathedral. Specially created multimedia effects from the company dreamlaser will help complement the music with footage related to the history of Russia and its cultural heritage. The festival is organized by the ANO "Center 800" with the support of the regional government and the Nizhny Novgorod diocese.
