In the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than six thousand reports of tick bites have been registered since the beginning of the year. This was reported by the press service of the Rospotrebnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to the agency, medical organizations received 6056 reports from people affected by tick bites. At the same time, the number of those who sought help turned out to be 13% lower than the average long-term indicator. The highest number of cases was recorded in Bor, Dzerzhinsk, as well as in the Vetluzhsky and Pavlovsky districts. Most often, insects attacked people near homes and on garden plots, as well as in the forest. Less often, victims encountered ticks in urban parks and squares. During this period, six cases of tick-borne viral encephalitis were identified, one of the patients being a twelve-year-old child. Infection occurred in the Gorodetsky, Varnavinsky, Vetluzhsky, and Chkalovsky districts. None of the victims sought medical help for emergency prevention after the bite, which led to the development of the disease.
In addition, among the adult population, 49 cases of tick-borne borreliosis were registered. Almost all infections - 96% - occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The diagnosis was confirmed by laboratory studies.
