The Nizhny Novgorod region has written off 21.6 billion rubles of debt on budget loans.

      July 13, 2026 09:59 Economy Since the beginning of the year, the Russian government has decided to write off 276.8 billion rubles in budget loans to the regions. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the head of municipal ratings at ACRA, Ilya Tsypkin. The measure affected 67 regions. In total, the amount written off accounted for about 12% of the total debt of the entities on budget loans. At the same time, the effect for the territories turned out to be different. Nizhny Novgorod region was among the regions that had the largest write-off in monetary terms. Its debt was reduced by 21.6 billion rubles - this is about 17% of the total amount owed to the federal budget. The largest absolute write-offs were made for the Moscow region (30.5 billion rubles), Krasnodar Krai (24.1 billion), and Tatarstan (23.7 billion). Tsypkin explained that the amount of write-off for each region depends on the size of investments in the modernization of housing and communal services, resettlement of emergency housing, updating public transport, and other development projects. In his opinion, such conditions create an incentive for local authorities to invest more actively in infrastructure and the economy, which should lead to positive long-term effects. The smallest debt reduction was recorded in Crimea - 5.8 million rubles, which is about 0.1% of the debt. Among the regions with minimal write-off amounts are the Nenets Autonomous Okrug - 99.5 million rubles or 23% of the debt, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug - 226.6 million rubles or 3%, the Zabaykalsky Krai - 241.4 million rubles or 1%, and the Murmansk region - 364.5 million rubles, which is 2% of the debt.
