Hunting quotas have been updated in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On July 9, 2026, at 09:28, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, new daily and seasonal norms for the permissible hunting of wildlife resources have been approved, for which no limits are set. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Natural Resources. The changes affected waterfowl and game birds, as well as hares during the spring, summer-autumn, and autumn-winter hunting periods. As noted by the agency, the previous regulations had been in effect since 2010 and had not been revised for more than 15 years.

      "During this time, not only have animal populations changed, but also approaches to hunting," the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.

      As emphasized in the document, the goal of the update is to maintain the natural balance and sustainable animal populations while providing residents the opportunity to engage in hunting. In the summer-autumn and autumn-winter periods, a seasonal norm for hares has been set at 30 individuals per hunter within one hunting area. For capercaillie, the limit is up to 5 individuals per season, and for black grouse, up to 20. Daily norms have been established for hazel grouse at 5 individuals, gray partridge at 3, and snipe at 10. No limits are set for geese and ducks, except for species listed in the Red Book of Russia and the Nizhny Novgorod region. In spring, the seasonal norm for capercaillie is set at 2 individuals, and for black grouse at 5. Males can be hunted up to 30 individuals per season. For snipe, a daily norm of 5 individuals applies, and for geese, a seasonal norm of 20 individuals, excluding red-listed species.

      In addition, a hunting quota for wild boar in publicly accessible hunting grounds in the region has been approved for the period from August 1, 2026, to August 1, 2027. A total of 52 individuals are allowed to be hunted during the season.
