The regional stage of the all-Russian marathon "Land of Sports" took place on June 27 at the physical culture and health complex "Arena" in the city of Semyonov. The project is being implemented as part of the state program "Comprehensive Development of Rural Areas" and aims to promote accessible sports and active leisure organization for residents of small towns and villages. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Resources of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Nikolai Denisov, noted that the marathon contributes to uniting residents and developing traditions of a healthy lifestyle in rural areas. A total of 302 athletes from 20 municipalities in the region participated in the competitions. The program included competitions in seven sports and athletic activities: GTO multi-sport, family relay, strength extreme, volleyball, mini-football, lapta, and gorodki. The Minister of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Kabailo, emphasized that the development of sports infrastructure in rural areas makes sports accessible to residents of the region regardless of age and level of training. As a result of the regional stage, the team from the Semyonov district took first place in the overall team standings. The second place went to the urban district of the city of Arzamas, and the third place to the Vadsky district. The winners in individual standings will represent the region at the all-Russian finals, the date and location of which will be announced later. The festival is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia with the support of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. Starting in 2025, at the request of President Vladimir Putin, the state program "Sport of Russia" is in effect in the country, aimed at creating conditions for physical activity, developing mass and children's sports, expanding sports infrastructure, and encouraging citizens to meet the standards of the "Ready for Labor and Defense" complex, as well as creating opportunities for veterans of the SVO for resocialization through sports activities.
