250 thousand rubles were recovered from the Nizhny Novgorod GUMMiD for the roof collapse on a child.
On June 29, 2026, at 18:18, incidents occurred in the Sormovsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod, which satisfied the prosecutor's claim for compensation for moral damage to a minor who was injured during the collapse of a roof in an abandoned building.
According to the court's press service, the defendant was the Municipal Institution "GUMMiD." The amount of the claims was 250,000 rubles.
The court established that on March 6, 2026, three minors freely entered the territory of a land plot on Station Street in the Sormovsky District, where there were vacant buildings. One of the buildings was being prepared for demolition: its property, including windows, had already been removed, and the object was not in use. At the same time, the area was fenced off.
At some point, the roof of one of the buildings could not withstand the weight of the snow and collapsed right onto the children inside. Two teenagers sustained injuries to their backs and legs. The third was trapped under the rubble of the roof and snow and died on the spot. He was 13 years old.
The injured teenager, on whose behalf the claim was filed, experienced severe stress in addition to bruises. The court noted that he not only endured physical pain but also fear for his life at the moment of the collapse, as well as witnessing the death of his friend.
Criminal cases have been initiated regarding the incident. An investigation is underway based on the signs of crimes provided for in part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Negligence" and Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Causing Death by Negligence." According to the investigation's version, the tragedy could have been the result of improper performance of duties by officials of the municipal institution responsible for ensuring the safety of the object before its demolition.
As part of the investigation, charges of negligence have been brought against the institution's director, Anatoly Ageev, who was appointed to this position in January 2026. The court chose a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest until July 5.
By the court's decision on June 23, the prosecutor's claim was fully satisfied. Compensation for moral damage in the amount of 250,000 rubles was awarded from the Municipal Institution "GUMMiD" in favor of the minor through his legal representative. The court's decision has not yet entered into legal force.
