      At the Oncology Research Institute, neuromonitoring has been implemented to eliminate the risk of voice loss. Surgeons from the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Clinical Oncology have started using a neuromonitoring system. This new technology guarantees the complete preservation of vocal function in patients after thyroid surgeries. This was reported by Stacionar-Press. Special equipment helps doctors accurately determine the location of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, even if it is hidden in deep layers of tissue. As a result, the risk of accidental damage to nerve endings and the associated muteness is reduced to zero. As explained by the head of the relevant department, Sergey Dmitriev, such practice has already been recognized as a global standard in surgery. It was recently implemented at the Nizhny Novgorod oncology center, but the initial results are promising. So far, 15 operations have been performed using the new method, all of which have been completed without any complications. In the future, the medical institution plans to carry out up to 400 such interventions annually — this volume is sufficient to fully meet the needs of the entire region. At the same time, doctors emphasize the positive dynamics in early diagnosis: the average size of neoplasms detected in patients in the region has decreased from three centimeters to 1.1 centimeters.
