      In Nizhny Novgorod, doctors helped a 43-year-old patient start walking independently after a severe industrial injury. The surgery was performed at the Volga Federal Medical Center of the FMBA of Russia, reported the editor-in-chief of IA "Stationary-Press," Alexey Nikonov. In 2024, the man suffered a shattered femur due to a heavy metal structure falling on him. The injury was accompanied by clinical death, after which the patient required emergency medical assistance. Despite a year of prolonged treatment, full recovery was not achieved. During the first attempt to walk, a repeated fracture of the femur occurred. By the time he was admitted to Hospital No. 4 of the Volga Federal Medical Center, the patient's condition remained severe: the injured leg had shortened by five centimeters, and he could hardly move on his own. The trauma surgeons performed a minimally invasive operation. Through small incisions, they stabilized the fracture with a special locking rod, which allowed them to stabilize the femur with minimal tissue trauma. The patient is now continuing rehabilitation. According to specialists, an important result has already been achieved—one year after the injury, the man was able to walk independently again. "In such cases, we restore not just the bone, but we return a person to normal life. For the patient, the ability to rely on his leg again after a year of restrictions is a fundamentally new stage of rehabilitation," noted orthopedic trauma surgeon Dmitry Pavlov.
