Nizhny Novgorod police detained a participant in a fraudulent scheme from Kazan.

      On June 9, 2026, at 11:28, Incidents: Nizhny Novgorod police detained a resident of Kazan, who is suspected of participating in a fraudulent scheme. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.

      The deception occurred in April 2026 when a 69-year-old resident of the Kulebaksky district contacted the police. An unknown person called her, introduced himself as a law enforcement officer, and convinced her that her savings were allegedly in danger. To "save" her money, the woman was offered to hand it over to a courier. Believing the caller, the pensioner handed over 5.3 million rubles.

      A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. The police identified the suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Kazan, who had no prior convictions and was officially unemployed. In early June, he was detained in Moscow and taken to the Kulebaksky police department. The man admitted his guilt in committing the crime. The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.

      The police remind that law enforcement officers, government services, and banks do not call citizens asking them to transfer money for their "safety." If you are offered to give money to a courier, they are fraudsters.

      Such cases should be reported immediately to the police at the numbers 02 or 102 from a mobile phone or to the nearest department.
