      The fact of illegal activity was revealed by employees of the 6th department of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region and the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Dzerzhinsk in cooperation with colleagues from the Federal Security Service of Russia for the region. As a result of operational activities in the territory of Dzerzhinsk, a garage was identified, in which one item resembling an AK-74 automatic rifle, two items resembling "Revolver" and "Glock" pistols, as well as two metal cans with gunpowder weighing about 500 grams, 71 cartridges, 3 empty magazines for the automatic rifle, a silencer, and two cardboard boxes with caps were stored. The discovered weapons and ammunition have been sent for ballistic examination. The police and regional FSB established and detained the owner of the garage - a previously unconvicted 37-year-old resident of Dzerzhinsk. The man explained that he had acquired the weapons and ammunition many years ago from private individuals and had stored them in his garage. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Dzerzhinsk has initiated a criminal case against the suspect under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, mailing, or carrying of weapons, essential parts of firearms, ammunition). Currently, measures are being taken to establish all circumstances under which the suspect acquired the weapons and ammunition, other individuals involved in this crime, as well as the collection of other information relevant to the criminal case. According to current legislation, the maximum penalty for this illegal act is imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years. The police of the Nizhny Novgorod region remind that a person who voluntarily surrenders illegally held weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices is exempt from criminal liability. In addition, a resolution of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region dated February 12, 2013 No. 77 "On monetary rewards for the voluntary surrender of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices" is being implemented in the region, under which citizens can receive monetary rewards for voluntarily surrendering both illegally stored weapons and registered ones.
