Photo of the day: the poisonous rhododendron has bloomed in the Nizhny Novgorod marshes

In the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve, the bog rosemary has bloomed—a plant that is called the "main swamp stinker" due to its strong odor. During flowering, it releases a lot of essential oils with a sharp aroma. For sensitive individuals and those who walk in the swamp for a long time in the heat, this smell can cause headaches and nausea. The bog rosemary, like blueberries, lingonberries, bilberries, and cranberries, belongs to the heather family. But unlike these berry plants, it is poisonous. Earlier, the website pravda-nn.ru reported that Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about the beginning of the flowering of this extremely poisonous plant.
