The rules for taking driving license exams have changed in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 25, 2026 13:16 Society Since May 12, updated requirements for conducting driving license exams have come into effect in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The changes were reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region. The main innovation concerns the deadlines for scheduling the practical part. Now, after successfully passing the "theory," the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate is required to conduct the practical exam no later than 60 days. Previously, this could take up to six months, and the date was determined by the police department. At the same time, the rule regarding retaking the theoretical part remains. If a candidate fails to pass the practical exam within six months after successfully passing the "theory," they will have to retake the theoretical exam. The requirements for behavior during the exam have also been tightened. The use of phones, reference materials, as well as any photo, audio, and video equipment, including hidden devices, now leads to the immediate termination of the exam or annulment of its results. In such cases, a retake will only be possible after a year. For other candidates who did not pass the "theory," a retake is still allowed after seven days. Some changes will come into effect on March 1, 2027. From that time, the theoretical exam will be recorded using photo, audio, and video recording. Currently, only the practical part is mandatory to be recorded. Additionally, when applying through the "Gosuslugi" portal, candidates may not provide a paper medical certificate if the information about it is contained in the Unified State Health Information System. However, if the medical certificate expires before the issuance of the license, the procedure will be suspended.
