A police chase of a drunken Nizhny Novgorod resident in a "Niva" ended in a car accident.

      On May 22, 2026, at 11:00, Incidents In the Nizhny Novgorod region, police officers detained a driver who attempted to evade inspectors and ended up in an accident, as reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.

      In the evening of May 17, in the territory of the Dalenekonstantinovsky district, traffic police officers noticed a domestic vehicle. According to eyewitnesses, a man with signs of alcohol intoxication was behind the wheel.

      The police decided to stop the car and began a pursuit with flashing lights activated. However, the driver ignored the demand and headed towards the Arzamas district.

      At the 92nd kilometer of the R-158 highway "Nizhny Novgorod - Saratov," the man lost control. The vehicle crashed into a road barrier and a road sign. As a result of the accident, the vehicle sustained mechanical damage, but the driver was unharmed.

      As established by the police, the driver was a 31-year-old unemployed resident of Arzamas. He exhibited signs of intoxication, but refused to undergo a medical examination. Consequently, a protocol was drawn up against him under part 1 of article 12.26 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation for failing to comply with the requirement to undergo a medical examination.

      Additionally, an administrative case was filed against the driver under article 12.33 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation for damaging road structures. The man was removed from driving the vehicle and taken to the police station for further investigation. The car was placed in a specialized parking lot.
