Nizhny Novgorod residents have started to see traffic light signals in their navigators: why is this necessary?

      On May 18, 2026, at 10:50, SocietyNizhny Novgorod became the third city in Russia where traffic light signals are displayed on online maps and in navigation systems. This was reported by the press service of Yandex.

      First of all, in the applications that receive information from the CRTS, the signals of the "smart" traffic lights on Gagarin Avenue, Rodionov Street, and several others will be displayed. When planning a route, users will see the color of the nearest traffic light, and if there is a timer, the time until the signal changes. Information can also be displayed when the screen is locked, using special smartphone modes.

      If a driver accelerates while approaching a red signal, the application will activate a sound warning. When the traffic light turns green, the sound will change.

      The time until the signal changes is also taken into account when creating a route. For example, if the trip ends at the traffic light, the route will be extended by the time it takes to pass it.

      It is noted that in the event of a traffic light malfunction, the applications will stop displaying it. Users will be able to report inaccuracies in the operation of signals on online maps.
