On May 12, a ceremony was held at the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin to present the honorary badge "Recognition," established by the regional public organization "Nizhny Novgorod Women's Council." This year, 10 Nizhny Novgorod mothers whose sons died while fulfilling their military duty in the Special Military Operation (SMO) were awarded this honor. The ceremony was attended by the First Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Gneushev, the Chairwoman of the Nizhny Novgorod Women's Council Olga Krasnova, and the mothers of the fallen heroes from Balakhna, Bogorodsk, Gorodets, Pavlovo, Sosnovka, Semyonov, Arzamas, Vyksa, and Nizhny Novgorod. The names of the fallen warriors are well known to their fellow countrymen; in their honor, memorial plaques have been opened, Hero desks have been installed in schools they attended, and stands have been set up in museum exhibitions. The award ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of the fallen. "You raised your sons to be real men, heroes, and we bow before their feat. They showed courage, bravery, and heroism in defending our country and fulfilling their duty. Their feat is an example of valiant service and loyalty to their Motherland for each of us, for the younger generation. Sincere gratitude and a low bow for raising true defenders of the Fatherland, who gave the most valuable thing for their Motherland — their lives. Eternal memory to our heroes!" said Andrey Gneushev. "Dear mothers, we fully share your grief and sorrow. The feat of your sons will forever remain in the memory of grateful compatriots and will become a moral compass for future generations, the highest example of true patriotism. We thank you for raising real heroes!" addressed the mothers Olga Krasnova. The Nizhny Novgorod Women's Council established the honorary badge "Recognition" in 2024 for the mothers of warriors as a token of gratitude and recognition for their maternal labor and upbringing of true patriots of Russia, defenders of the Fatherland, who honorably fulfilled their military duty, for their maternal valor and courage and the heroism of their sons. In total, from December 2024 to May 2026, such awards were presented to 62 Nizhny Novgorod mothers whose sons died while fulfilling their duty in the SMO.
