More than three thousand drunk drivers were caught in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 10, 2026 17:30 Incidents Since the beginning of 2026, 3,311 drivers showing signs of intoxication have been held accountable in the Nizhny Novgorod region, reported the regional traffic police department. Of these, the state of intoxication was officially confirmed for 2,918 individuals. At the same time, 1,287 drivers refused to undergo the testing procedure. Another 393 people were caught driving under the influence again, despite having their driver's licenses revoked. They now face criminal liability. Residents of Nizhny Novgorod are reminded that according to legislation, driving a vehicle while intoxicated, as well as refusing to undergo a medical examination, carries an administrative fine of 45,000 rubles and a driving ban for a period of 1.5 to 2 years. Repeated commission of this offense entails criminal liability under Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for punishment up to imprisonment with confiscation of the vehicle.
