May 3, 2026 11:49 Incidents In Dzerzhinsk, police are investigating a fraud case involving a 59-year-old local resident. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region. According to the man, he received calls from unknown individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the pension fund and law enforcement agencies. Under the pretext of needing to "declare" funds and supposedly helping elderly people, the fraudsters convinced him to follow their instructions. Over several days, the Dzerzhinsk resident traveled to addresses in Nizhny Novgorod, where he received money from pensioners. He then handed over all the collected funds to an unknown person. The total damage amounted to about 1.8 million rubles, of which 600 thousand rubles were the victim's personal savings, and the remaining amount was money received from elderly citizens. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. Police are establishing the circumstances of the crime and identifying those involved. Law enforcement reminds that representatives of government institutions do not require money transfers over the phone and do not ask to participate in the collection or transfer of funds to third parties.
