All 25 fountains are being prepared for launch in Nizhny Novgorod.
All 25 fountains in Nizhny Novgorod are undergoing decommissioning and equipment checks as part of preparations for operation during the summer period. This was reported by the press service of the city administration. Since April 20, specialists have begun checking the equipment, after which the city fountains started to be launched in test mode, with the official opening scheduled before May 1, the Department of Urban Improvement of the Nizhny Novgorod city administration reported. At the main city fountain in Minin and Pozharsky Square, specialists from the Joint Utility Operator, which services the historical fountain, have already dismantled the cover that protected the equipment from precipitation during the winter. They also updated the paint coating on the upper and lower bowls of the fountain and cleaned the reservoir. Significant work is being done in the underground part—installing and checking the pumping equipment and drainage system. After that, tuning and commissioning will take place. "Our historical fountain in Minin Square is equipped with modern pumping equipment and software that synchronizes the water supply, musical and light accompaniment," said Igor Fedin, the master of the mountain water supply section of the Joint Stock Company "OKO," whose team is preparing the fountain for operation in the summer period. Nizhny Novgorod residents emphasize that it is with the opening of the fountain that summer comes to the city. "This is the most beautiful fountain in the city; we often come here in the summer—it's a great place to meet friends," noted student Nikita. "Personally, I am looking forward to the opening: in the summer, it's nice to sit here in the square, listen to the birds singing, and watch the fountain at work," shared local resident Alexandra.

The project for the city fountain in Minin Square was developed by hydraulic engineer A.I. Delwig. The unique equipment for Russia was manufactured at the Vyksa plant of the Shepelev family. It was built in 1847 as a water distribution point. Water from 18 springs brought to the surface was collected through wooden pipes into a brick basin at the junction of Kazan and Georgievsky descents, where a water-lifting station with two steam engines was located. Water was lifted through four cast-iron pipes to the Martynov Hospital and went to the first water distribution reservoir at the intersection of Zhukovskaya (Minin) and Martynovskaya (Semashko) streets. Further, the aqueduct ran along Zhukovskaya Street to the fountain in Blagoveshchenskaya Square, which served as the main water distribution point. The water supply provided 40,000 buckets of water per day. Previously, the fountain was located north of the Cathedral of the Annunciation, in the area of the modern transport stop between the former "Deer" café and the Kremlin wall. In 1930, after the demolition of the Annunciation and Alexeyevsky churches, the fountain was moved to its current location. The fountain has been restored and modernized multiple times. In the 1990s, an underground part and pumping stations were built, and in 2007, the fountain was equipped with lighting that operates at night. Now, the structure of one of Nizhny Novgorod's main attractions uses a complex of the latest technological solutions: modern pumping equipment and software have been installed.
