      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, experts have identified the most accident-prone road segments based on data from the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs for March 2026, as reported by "newsroom24.ru".

      This list includes several federal and regional highways. In particular, a seven to eight-kilometer stretch of the road connecting Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo has been classified as a dangerous zone. Additionally, sections of the M-7 "Volga" highway (361-362 and 460-461 km) and segments of the M-12 expressway (552-553 and 597-598 km) have also been included in the list. Problematic roads also include sections of the Ryazhsk - Kasimov - Murom - Nizhny Novgorod highway in the Bogorodsky district (414-415 km) and the Nizhny Novgorod - Shakhunya - Kirov road in the Krasnobakovsky district (167-168 km). However, the section in the Kstovo district, known among drivers as the "valley of death," has not been included in the current ranking of the most accident-prone places. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that incidents constantly occur in these areas. For example, in the Krasnobakovsky district, one person was injured due to a collision between a truck and a passenger car.

      As reported, as of March 19, 2026, on federal roads M-7, R-158, and R-177 passing through the Nizhny Novgorod region, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 22% based on the results of 2025. This led to a reduction in the number of injured and fatalities. Furthermore, the number of sections with a high concentration of accidents decreased from 15 to 8 during the reporting period.
