Nizhny Novgorod Region expands cooperation with China

The business lounge "Russia-China," organized by the regional government, gathered representatives from over 50 Chinese companies and business associations operating in Russia. Special attention was paid to measures supporting foreign investors and opportunities for creating joint projects in the region. Dmitry Starostin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, noted that business contacts between the countries are strengthening, and the region is ready to remove informational barriers and support the launch of new initiatives. "The first initiatives with foreign participation are already being implemented in the special economic zone 'Kulibin,' where preferential conditions for residents are in place," he said. Among the priority areas for cooperation are machine engineering, automotive industry, chemical and light industry, agriculture, IT, and construction. Several Nizhny Novgorod enterprises, including the poultry farm "Pavlovskaya" and the holding "Pearl of the Volga," are already supplying products to the Chinese market. Gao Xianzhong, President of the National Association of Shanxi Entrepreneurs in Russia, reported that he has been working in the country for a long time and is interested in partnering with the Nizhny Novgorod region. "In the technological direction, we are interested in telecommunications and electronic products. We see high potential and are ready to consider specific proposals from Nizhny Novgorod enterprises," he said. Participants also discussed the difficulties arising under sanctions, including financial settlements and finding reliable partners. Regional representatives emphasized that alternative financial mechanisms are being developed in collaboration with federal institutions and banks, and entrepreneurs are receiving support in transaction facilitation. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the business lounge "Russia-China" on a regular basis. The next significant event for the development of cooperation will be the international conference CIPR (16+), which will take place from May 18 to 21, 2026. Xiaomin Li, an advisor to the China International Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology Development, emphasized that trade interaction between Russia and China is actively developing, and now is the time to move to a new stage — the creation of production and investment projects. He noted that it is important for Chinese companies to better understand Russian legislation, support measures, and regional features, and the recent meeting helped to obtain such information. Nizhny Novgorod enterprises interested in working with Chinese partners can seek consultation at the Export Support Center of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The development of the region's export potential aligns with the goals of the national project "International Cooperation and Export," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
