Nizhny Novgorod forests will be cleared of 31 dumps as part of the "Clean Forest" campaign.
On April 7, 2026, at 13:00, Society31 plans to eliminate an unauthorized dump on the lands of the forest fund in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2026. The work will take place as part of the annual "Clean Forest" campaign. The total volume of waste to be removed is 271.5 cubic meters.
As noted by the head of the regional Ministry of Forestry, Roman Vorobyov, the condition of the forests directly affects the ecological well-being of the region. The agency organizes such work annually, and they are already yielding noticeable results.
Last year, about 1,200 cubic meters of waste were removed from the forests, and 74 unauthorized dumps were eliminated. Since 2022, 310 such sites have been cleared, totaling over 6,000 cubic meters. The minister added that the natural resources of the region are a common asset, and their preservation is a contribution to the health and quality of life of current and future generations.
Throughout the year, specialists from district and inter-district forestry enterprises conduct ongoing educational work with residents, reminding them of the inadmissibility of dumping waste in the forests.
The "Clean Forest" campaign will take place from May to August. Traditionally, it involves representatives of government authorities, local self-government, educational institutions, forest plot tenants, hunting users, Cossack representatives, as well as volunteers and residents of the region.
The regional Ministry of Forestry emphasized that under current legislation, the agency is not obligated to eliminate unauthorized dumps of solid municipal waste on forest fund lands. Nevertheless, the campaign is conducted on its own initiative.
For violations of sanitary rules in the forests, administrative liability is provided under Article 8.31 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation. For individuals, the fine ranges from 500 to 5,000 rubles; for officials, from 1,000 to 40,000 rubles; and for legal entities, from 10,000 to 500,000 rubles.
Moreover, the cluttering of forests with household, construction, and industrial waste increases the risk of fires. For violations of fire safety rules, as stipulated in Article 8.32 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, the fines are significantly higher: for individuals, from 15,000 to 50,000 rubles; for officials, from 30,000 to 90,000 rubles; and for legal entities, from 100,000 to 1,000,000 rubles.
It is worth noting that starting in 2025, a national project "Ecological Well-Being" is being implemented in Russia on the orders of President Vladimir Putin, which addresses tasks previously outlined in the national project "Ecology." The new national project aims to care for the environment and enhance its comfort for human life. It includes six federal projects: "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Preservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Preservation," "Closed-Loop Economy," and "Clean Air."
It was reported that in 2025, nine major dumps were cleared in Nizhny Novgorod.
