      The authorized representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, Igor Komarov, held a council meeting in Nizhny Novgorod with the participation of heads of federal ministries and agencies, representatives of the Federal Assembly, and heads of regions of the Volga Federal District. The main topic was the implementation of state demographic policy in rural areas. Igor Komarov reported that there are 7.8 million rural residents in the Volga Federal District, accounting for 21.5% of the total rural population in the country. He noted that a specialized state program is in effect until 2030. From 2020 to 2025, 327,000 square meters of housing have been built and purchased in the regions of the district, 7,500 projects for the improvement of public spaces have been implemented, and about 650 kilometers of roads have been built and repaired.

      Activities aimed at rural development and improving the demographic situation are also being implemented within the framework of national projects "Family," "Long and Active Life," and other strategic documents. They include support for families with children, maternal health protection, and the development of primary healthcare.

      The Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Secretary of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the United Russia party, Gleb Nikitin, presented the experience of implementing the demographic program "Foundation." He reminded about the financial support measures for families: regardless of need criteria, parents receive at least 1 million rubles upon the birth of each child, taking into account the federal maternity capital.

      According to Gleb Nikitin, Nizhny Novgorod Region is the most urbanized region in the Volga Federal District and demonstrates the smallest gap between the total birth rate of rural and urban populations. He emphasized the need to improve the accessibility of services and the quality of life in rural areas to reduce population outflow.

      The head of the region reported that measures of support are being tailored to the characteristics of rural areas. In particular, the possibility of developing settlements near district centers with social infrastructure, providing housing within the demographic program, and land plots for veterans of the special military operation is being considered.

      Following the meeting, recommendations are planned to be developed to improve federal and regional measures to strengthen demographic potential and enhance the quality of life in rural areas in accordance with the tasks set by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
