      Starting March 25, 2026, the acting director of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko will be appointed the chief freelance oncologist of the regional health ministry, Doctor of Medical Sciences Sergey Gamayunov. The corresponding decision was made by the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin. Sergey Gamayunov will also retain the position of director of the Research Institute of Clinical Oncology "Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary" (NIICO "NOKOD"). In his new role, he will oversee the implementation of the flagship gubernatorial project "City of Health," aimed at integrating the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of the N. A. Semashko Regional Clinical Hospital and NIICO "NOKOD." The project includes the creation of an oncology center in Nizhny Novgorod with specialized equipment, including PET/CT and a cyclotron, as well as the development of high-tech surgery and the expansion of the regional organ and tissue transplantation program. As part of the national project "Long and Active Life," the construction of a Nuclear Medicine Center is planned on the territory of the regional hospital. It is expected to produce radiopharmaceuticals, conduct more than eight thousand PET/CT studies per year, and perform modern treatment procedures. According to the deputy governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Andrey Checherin, a contract for the supply of PET/CT will be signed soon, and the commissioning of the equipment is scheduled for 2028. The same year, the construction of a new surgical building with an emergency department and outpatient clinic is planned. The Nizhny Novgorod health ministry also reported other personnel changes. The former head of the N. A. Semashko Regional Clinical Hospital, Sergey Bogdanov, will head the City Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Nizhny Novgorod. Nikolai Rodin, who previously held the position of chief physician of GKB No. 5, has been appointed head of City Hospital No. 33 in Nizhny Novgorod, where the regional toxicology center operates. The national project "Long and Active Life" aims to increase life expectancy by 2030 and includes the renovation of outpatient clinics and health centers, the development of a network of paramedic and midwife stations, attracting medical personnel, implementing new approaches to the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency care, rehabilitation, and digitizing the industry.
