      With the beginning of 2026, social networks were swept by a wave of nostalgia for 2016. The editorial staff of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" asked the head of the Psychological Service of PIMU, Maria Khalak, what the reasons for this collective nostalgia are. In her opinion, such trends perform several important psychological functions. First, it is "anchoring" and seeking support in an unstable world. Second, it is a way of self-reflection. Returning to one’s 2016 photos, a person answers the questions: "Who was I? How have I changed? What have I achieved?" Third, nostalgia can be not only sadness but also a resource. Studies show that moderate nostalgia improves mood, enhances the sense of self-worth and connectedness with others. "Overall, the trend '2026 — the new 2016' can be viewed as a healthy social ritual. It works like collective therapy: it helps to make sense of the decade, receive support from others, and move forward with renewed strength," the expert said.

      Recall that earlier residents of Nizhny Novgorod were given recommendations for a smooth return to their usual work and rest routines. Specialists named the most common mistake as plunging headlong back into work. After a long period of sleeping until noon and staying awake late in the evenings, the body needs time to adapt. Therefore, experts advise starting a few days before returning to work to gradually shift bedtime and wake-up time closer to the usual schedule. In addition, physician Natalya Savitskaya spoke about the relationship between nutrition and a "healthy heart."

      According to her, poor nutrition plays the most significant role in the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Excessive consumption of saturated fats and trans fats, found in fast food, industrial baked goods and fried foods, leads to increased blood cholesterol levels. Excessive sugar consumption contributes to the development of insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus, which in itself is a powerful risk factor for CVD.
