"No Entry" signs will be installed on the Bolshaya Pokrovskaya pedestrian street in Nizhny Novgorod starting February 3, 2026, the city's Department of Transport and Road Management reported.

The ban will apply to sections leading from Minin and Pozharsky Square, as well as Malaya Pokrovskaya, Gruzinskaya and Oktyabrskaya streets.

"The question of the need to hold drivers who drive onto the pedestrian street to account has been raised repeatedly by Nizhny Novgorod residents on various public platforms," the department noted.

The installation of the signs is necessary to prevent unauthorized vehicle entry during hours when traffic is prohibited. Violations will be recorded using automatic photo and video enforcement cameras, which are also planned to be installed.

The restriction will be in effect daily from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. At other times — from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. — passage will be allowed for vehicles carrying out loading and unloading at retail outlets.

According to experts, the new rules will help reduce the number of accidents and conflicts between pedestrians and drivers on one of the city's busiest streets.

Earlier it was reported that restrictions on stopping and parking will be introduced on the section of Pokrovka from Gorky Square to Malaya Pokrovskaya Street starting January 20, 2026, and at Gorky Square near building No. 2 they came into effect on January 6.

Additionally, another pedestrian zone will appear in Nizhny Novgorod on Malaya Pokrovskaya. It will stretch from Bolshaya Pokrovskaya to Architect Kharitonov Street.
