Residents of Nizhny Novgorod appealed to the founder of Wildberries over the construction of a warehouse.

      Nizhny Novgorod residents wrote an open letter to Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim asking her to consider alternative options for placing the large warehouse planned for Novinki. The appeal was published on social media.

      Residents of the Oksky Bereg housing complex and the villages of Komarovo, Kusakovka, Kudma and Novopavlovka sought to attract the attention of the well-known entrepreneur. They recalled that recently Tatyana Kim called for the creation of a “space for constructive dialogue in the name of developing our country’s economy.” However, in the authors’ view, this practice has not been applied in relation to Nizhny Novgorod.

      In particular, in November of last year a meeting was held with local residents, representatives of the government, the mayor’s office and relevant ministries, as well as the Wildberries company itself. According to the authors of the appeal, the latter’s position amounted to nothing more than a “tacit agreement with the actions of local authorities, which ignore our legitimate demands.”

      “We hope that corporate ethics are not just words in the annual report. Construction that provokes such mass protest is a colossal reputational blow to Wildberries’ image. After all, customers are not only those who place orders, but also those in whose yards you plan to work,” the Nizhny Novgorod residents emphasized.

      In total, the authors of the letter put forward three main demands. The first: to raise the dialogue to a new level, namely to conduct substantive discussions of legal issues. The second: to demand “full transparency” from regional authorities and to guarantee that the warehouse’s creation will not begin until all approvals have been shown to local residents. The third: to consider alternative locations for the warehouse, which would be consistent with principles of social responsibility.
