Nizhny Novgorod scooter rider who fatally struck a pensioner will pay 1.3 million rubles.

      The prosecutor's office of the Moskovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod carried out an inspection of compliance with legislation aimed at protecting the rights of socially vulnerable citizens, the agency's press service reported.

      During the oversight activities, it was established that a young man riding an electric scooter was traveling on the sidewalk along Berezovskaya Street. As a result, he struck an elderly woman.

      The pensioner suffered serious injuries in the collision. Despite receiving medical assistance, the victim died in hospital.

      After the tragedy, the deceased woman's husband appealed to the prosecutor's office asking it to represent his interests in court and recover compensation from the person at fault for the moral harm caused.

      The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit in court. As a result of its consideration, the supervisory authority's claims were fully granted.

      The court ordered the scooter rider to pay the deceased's family compensation in the amount of 1,300,000 rubles.

      Earlier it was reported that an e-scooter rider had hit a child in the village of Afonino near Nizhny Novgorod.
