The readiness of Nizhny Novgorod contractors for winter was inspected at the GUAD.
14 November 2025 08:00 Society Specialists of the Main Directorate for Motor Roads (GUAD) of the Nizhny Novgorod Region checked the readiness of contracting organizations to ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic on regional highways during the 2025/2026 winter period. They inspected 15 contracting organizations responsible for maintaining almost 13,000 kilometers of regional and intermunicipal roads, as well as three specialized bridge services. According to GUAD director Leonid Samukhin, special attention during the inspections was paid to the technical condition of snow-removal equipment, the availability of anti-icing materials, and the organization of round-the-clock duty. "Overall readiness across the region is 90%. It is expected that all organizations will achieve full readiness by November 20. The planned measures, including the repair of localized road surface damage and the formation of shifts for round-the-clock response, have already been fully implemented," Samukhin said. To combat ice and snowfall on the region’s roads, 315,000 tons of anti-icing materials have already been stockpiled. Contractors have prepared 569 units of specialized road equipment for the winter season. Additionally, a reserve of 329 vehicles has been formed, including tractors with mounted equipment, rotary snow blowers, and vehicles for transporting personnel. This will allow for a rapid response to emergencies and peak loads. Coordination of work during the winter period will be carried out through GUAD’s 24-hour dispatch service. It will be a key element of interaction between road services, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD), the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), and municipal dispatchers. It was previously reported that more than a thousand workers and about 600 units of equipment will clear snow in Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
