      The Council of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region approved an initiative that would allow a free plot of land to be replaced by a one‑time cash payment for large families. The proposal is aimed at amending the federal law "On Additional Measures of State Support for Families With Children," the press service of the Legislative Assembly reported.

      The Chairman of the regional Legislative Assembly, Evgeny Lyulin, noted that not all families are interested in building a house, and for many it would be more sensible to use the funds, for example, to buy ready-made housing or to improve their housing conditions.

      Under the draft, citizens raising three or more children will be able to receive a one‑time cash payment instead of a plot for individual housing construction. The amount of the payment will be determined by regional authorities but cannot be less than one million rubles.

      The chairman of the relevant committee of the regional parliament, Vasily Sukhanov, said that the initiative is relevant for the Nizhny Novgorod Region. It will help reduce the queue of families waiting to receive land and will give them more freedom in choosing options to improve their housing conditions.

      The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, supported the proposal. The document has now been sent to other regions for discussion. If the initiative is approved, it could be considered in the State Duma in a first reading in December. Financing is proposed to be provided from the federal budget.
