Restrictions on mobile internet in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast remain in place for security reasons. This was reported by representatives of the regional Ministry of Digital Development in response to residents’ complaints on social media.

According to officials, the measures will remain in force as long as a potential threat exists that requires an elevated level of protection. As part of these measures, the region is reducing the power of the cellular signal. The regional ministry of digital development stressed that decisions on restrictions are made by security agencies.

Meanwhile, residents of Nizhny Novgorod continue to complain on social media about unstable mobile internet service. Another spike in complaints was recorded on 11 November.

The ministry also reminded that to minimize inconvenience, the region operates a system of "whitelists" — a special technical solution developed by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation together with telecom operators.

The mechanism ensures that access to socially significant online resources is maintained even during restrictions. The list includes popular Russian digital platforms — social networks, marketplaces, navigation services, taxi apps, as well as customers’ accounts with telecom operators.

In addition, the Gosuslugi portal, the remote voting platform, and the websites of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation operate without restrictions.

No additional authorization is required to access these resources. The list will be expanded in the near future: the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation is already preparing the second phase of connecting in-demand services. This is expected to include, among other things, banking apps.

Earlier it was reported that a map of locations with free Wi‑Fi had been created in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
