A criminal case has been opened in the town of Lukoyanov in the Nizhny Novgorod region over the severe injury sustained by a minor kindergarten pupil. This was reported on 13 November by the regional office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The incident occurred in October. According to the investigation, the girl was playing indoors on a wooden play structure shaped like a car. During play she lost her balance and fell to the floor. At the time of the incident there were no staff members of the institution nearby.
As a result of the fall, the child sustained an open traumatic brain injury. Doctors classified it as grievous bodily harm.
The criminal case was opened under part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Negligence". The grounds for the start of the investigation were materials from a prosecutor's inspection.
Investigators intend to give a legal assessment of the actions (or inaction) of the preschool staff.
