The chairman of the A Just Russia party, Sergey Mironov, drew attention to the problem of pension indexation in Russia. According to the Social Fund, pension increases are not keeping up with the rate of inflation, which worsens the financial situation of pensioners. Mironov proposed moving to quarterly pension indexation, 360.ru reports.

As of October 1, the average social pension amounted to 15,514 rubles (an increase of 14.8%), and the average pension across the country was 23,529 rubles. However, these figures do not reflect the real situation, since the social pension only slightly exceeds the subsistence minimum for pensioners. The social pension is intended for those who cannot receive an insurance pension, and their number is growing (around 4 million people). Growth of the insurance pension was only 1.5% over the year, while wages increased ten times faster.

Mironov emphasized that the pension level has fallen below the 34% of wages promised in the pension reform. The Social Fund's budget deficit has almost doubled and reached 780 billion rubles. He proposed indexing pensions quarterly and abolishing the points-based pension calculation system, which unfairly limits their amount.

The lawmaker added that he recently outlined the party's position to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, the State Duma proposed revising the approach to calculating pensions to more fairly account for citizens' labor contributions. In addition, the idea of introducing an annual 13th pension in Russia was voiced.

It is worth recalling that economically active residents of Nizhny Novgorod named a decent pension size — 47,900 rubles per month.
