      The morning of November 12 began for residents of Nizhny Novgorod with a thick fog accompanied by a sharp and unpleasant smell. According to eyewitnesses on social networks, there is a smell of smoke and chemical additives in the air.

      Nizhny Novgorod residents write that the foul odor has spread to almost the entire city. The strongest smell was recorded in the Sovetsky and Nizhegorodsky districts, as well as in Dzerzhinsk.

      Residents of the Zarechye area also complain of a persistent smell of smoke. A persistent chemical tang is felt in the air near Kuzbasskaya Street and in the Avtozavod district.

      In Dzerzhinsk the atmosphere is described as "smoke and chemicals." Local residents express concern about what is happening.

      Earlier it was reported that inspections are again being carried out at the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station because of the unpleasant odor.

      It should also be noted that oversight of Nizhny Novgorod enterprises regarding effluent discharges that place a burden on the drainage system has been increased.

      In addition, Nizhny Novgorod authorities have developed a set of measures to reduce and prevent the emergence of unpleasant odors, including stepped-up control over the activities of unauthorized "black" cesspool operators.
