The Borsky City Court sentenced a local resident to eight years in prison for repeated driving under the influence and attempting to sell drugs in especially large quantities, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Prosecutor's Office reported.
The court found that in spring 2025 the man was driving a VAZ 21053 while intoxicated on Molodezhny Avenue in the Avtozavodsky district of the regional capital. He already had a prior conviction for a similar offense.
In addition, the defendant was part of a group that attempted to sell drugs through secret drop-off points. The attempt to distribute the prohibited substances was thwarted by law enforcement. Criminal cases against the organizer and other group members have been separated into separate proceedings.
The court, agreeing with the prosecution, sentenced the defendant to eight years’ imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony. He was also banned from engaging in activities related to driving vehicles for five years.
Earlier it was reported that over the year the number of traffic accidents involving drunk drivers in the Nizhny Novgorod Region increased by 6.8%. It also became known which districts of the region and the Volga capital consume the most alcoholic beverages.
