Someone tried to sell a large quantity of expired medicines in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      In the summer of 2025 the digital labeling system "Chestny Znak" blocked more than 85,000 attempts to sell expired medicines in pharmacies across the country. This was reported by editor-in-chief of the publication "Stacionar-press" Alexey Nikonov on his Telegram channel.

      Before a sale the cashier scans each medicine, and the system checks the expiration date and decides whether the product can be dispensed. If it has expired, the sale is blocked automatically.

      Nizhny Novgorod Region turned out to be among the regions where such cases were recorded in especially large numbers. Moscow, Smolensk, Samara and Moscow regions, Krasnodar Krai, Crimea, Dagestan and Yakutia also made the anti-rating list.

      Most often pharmacies tried to sell expired packages of umifenovir for the prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), as well as levothyroxine sodium, a drug for people with thyroid problems. In addition, even simple remedies such as iodine, brilliant green and marshmallow extract were on the list.

      All such cases are immediately reported to Roszdravnadzor. They are already deciding what to do next.

      According to experts, with the advent of the labeling system it has become practically impossible to legally sell expired medicines. The technology helps to filter out dangerous products in time and protect consumers.

      Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod residents had spent 25.9 billion rubles on medicines since the beginning of the year.
