Alexander Petrov of Nizhny Novgorod became Russia's best milling machine operator.

The federal stage of the All‑Russian competition “Best in Profession” in this nomination concluded in Smolensk.

Nizhny Novgorod native Alexander Petrov (JSC OKBM named after I.I. Afrikantov) became Russia’s best milling machinist. The federal stage of the All‑Russian professional skills competition “Best in Profession” in this nomination was held in Smolensk.

“The ‘Best in Profession’ competition confirmed the high level of training of specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod region. This format of competition not only identifies the best craftsmen, but also facilitates the exchange of experience and the raising of professionalism standards. Participating in the competition is an opportunity to demonstrate one’s skills, receive deserved recognition, and inspire the younger generation to choose in‑demand technical professions,” emphasized Igor Pantyukhin, Head of the Department for Labor and Employment of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The competition demonstrated a high level of qualification among participants, who tackled a variety of tasks — from the precise manufacture of parts from drawings to a creative approach in the final stage. Assessment took into account not only product quality but also adherence to safety rules and workplace organization, reflecting real production conditions.

The winner in the “Milling Machinist” category, Alexander Petrov, works as a 5th‑class milling machinist at JSC OKBM named after I.I. Afrikantov and has 11 years of experience in the profession.

“Participating in the contest was a real challenge for me. Competing with the best specialists in Russia and completing difficult assignments — it was all nerve‑wracking and hard. Victory brought incredible joy and became a powerful motivation for further professional growth,” the winner shared.

Prizewinners of the competition also included Alexander Andreyev (JSC Smolensk Aviation Plant) and Evgeny Kurokhtanov (JSC Gavrilov‑Yamsky Machine‑Building Plant “Agat”, Yaroslavl Region).

Recall that since 2025 the All‑Russian competition “Best in Profession” has been held within the framework of the national project “Personnel,” implemented at the direction of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and includes regional and federal stages in 20 nominations. Winners of the federal stage receive cash prizes: 1st place — 1 million rubles, 2nd place — 500 thousand rubles, 3rd place — 300 thousand rubles. The solemn award ceremony for the 2025 winners will take place in December in Moscow.

The organizer of the competition is the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation with the support of federal and regional authorities, as well as all‑Russian trade union and employer associations. The competition operator is VNIIT of Labor.
