Nizhny Novgorod shelters will be reimbursed for rent and veterinary care expenses.

      October 10, 2025 14:48 Society The administration of Nizhny Novgorod continues to strengthen support for animal shelters.

      Mayor Yuri Shalabaev said on his Telegram channel that in 2025 the city will begin reimbursing shelters for veterinary care for injured animals with no owners, for preparing animals for transfer to new families, and for renting municipal premises where animals are housed and exercised.

      According to the mayor, a competition to award subsidies has already been announced. In the summer the mayor met with the head of the charitable foundation "Compassion NN," Vladimir Groysman, and they discussed how to make aid to shelters even more effective.

      Shalabaev noted that the city’s support program is evolving gradually. For example, last year shelters began to be reimbursed for utility costs, animal care, security and fire alarm systems, and for disinfecting premises.

      "All of this will allow them to operate more steadily and effectively, ensure a decent life for our animal friends and increase their chances of finding new caring owners," Shalabaev said.

      Earlier it was reported that the "Compassion NN" foundation temporarily suspended intake of new animals to its shelter due to a huge debt for the treatment of its wards.
