Alexander Mudrov closed all outdoor public toilets in Gorodets because of vandalism.

      In Gorodets this winter not a single public toilet will be in operation. This decision was made by the head of the district, Alexander Mudrov. In his Telegram channel he wrote that it is a forced measure due to constant vandalism.

      Mudrov explained that the authorities try to make the city convenient for tourists and locals: they install new toilets, repair old ones, and extend their operation in summer. But in return they get damaged property, trash and filth.

      According to the head, installing cameras, organizing security and constantly repairing what’s broken is too expensive for the budget. Therefore he decided to take another path: close the toilets for the winter and give people something to think about.

      “Probably, after all, behaving well is cheaper than repairing something new after hooligans,” the district head noted.

      Mudrov added that tourists are unlikely to be to blame for what is happening; it is more likely the locals who are making the mess.

      “I think it is hardly possible to blame tourists for this filth; they come to Gorodets seeking completely different emotions. How, then, should we perceive what is happening? A local demarche toward visitors of the ‘we don’t want you here, tough luck until you get home’ variety?” he wrote.

      The street toilets will be closed until spring.

      “We are taking the toilets out of service for the winter period. Unfortunately. We will prepare them for the spring season, when they will open again,” Alexander Mudrov summed up.

      Earlier, Mudrov spoke sharply about the “pigeons” who leave trash and sunflower-seed husks on the Gorodets embankment, and threatened to “jab them with a beak.”
