Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov on October 8, during a working trip to Nizhny Novgorod, visited the IT campus together with Governor Gleb Nikitin. It should be recalled that the campus project is being implemented under the national project “Youth and Children,” initiated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

The head of the region presented the minister with the results of the first phase of construction. Valery Falkov inspected the first 18 dormitory buildings providing 1,359 places.

The minister noted that universities in the Nizhny Novgorod region should carefully organize the transition to the up-to-date IT educational programs already prepared for training at the campus. He said that the founder is ready to assist the universities to ensure this transition is carried out with the highest quality.

Starting this year, the IT campus has admitted students to five network programs developed by Nizhny Novgorod universities together with industrial partners. Graduates of these programs will be in demand as specialists in data analysis and in the protection of digital information in the commercial sector and government bodies.

Gleb Nikitin emphasized that the IT university is being created as a unified environment for interaction between education, science and business. According to him, more than eight thousand students each year will gain access to the ecosystem of the campus’s educational and industrial partners. The university will offer training in a number of key areas: microelectronics, quantum optics, neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and others. The topics of research and study programs are shaped at the intersection of scientists’ competencies and the real needs of the region’s enterprises.

Separately, Falkov and Nikitin reviewed the technological equipment of the facilities. In addition to the infrastructure, Valery Falkov learned about world-class research being conducted by Nizhny Novgorod scientists. For example, Susanna Gordleeva, head of the Center for Neuromorphic Computing at the IT university and a professor in the Neurotechnology Department at Nizhny Novgorod State University, presented breakthrough developments in the field of neuromorphic computing.

As previously reported, the implementation of the IT campus project is planned in five stages. About 220,000 square meters of residential space, lecture halls and scientific laboratories are planned to be built. The second and third stages include the construction of two hotels for students and faculty, the fourth — an educational building with a sports and wellness complex and a conference center, and the fifth — a scientific and educational hub. Construction and installation work is in full swing.

It should be recalled that the day before, Gleb Nikitin also met with the head of the Russian Ministry of Education Sergey Kravtsov and the Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.
